Lead From The Inside Out: Unlock your Body Intelligence (BQ™)
COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT BQ™ SPEAKING, WORKSHOPS & TRAINING
Questions? I've got you.
BQ Workshop FAQs page
- 01Body Intelligence is the ability to notice and interpret the information your body is giving you, and use it to make more conscious choices about how you respond, communicate and lead. If IQ is how we think and EQ helps us understand emotions, BQ™ brings the body into the conversation. It helps us notice what is happening before our automatic patterns take over, and gives us more choice about what happens next.
- 02Not exactly. While BQ™ can absolutely support stress management and resilience, it goes much further. I use Body Intelligence to explore confidence, communication, collaboration, decision-making, capacity, presence and leadership. The focus depends on what your people need.
- 03This work is grounded in science, not magic. The body is constantly sending information to and receiving information from the brain. Stress, emotion, attention, behaviour and even how we connect with other people are influenced by what is happening physiologically. BQ™ draws from established research and practice around neuroscience, stress physiology, the autonomic nervous system, interoception, embodiment and behaviour. However, I'm not a scientist, I'm a translator. Researchers and practitioners have spent decades studying how our brains, bodies, nervous systems, emotions and behaviour interact. My job is to help you take that knowledge off the page, experience it for yourself, and apply it to your everyday life and work. I translate complex ideas into simple, practical Body Intelligence experiences so you can notice what's happening in your body, understand what it might be telling you, and practice doing something different with that information. Because knowing the research is one thing. Feeling it happen in your own body, and knowing how to use it in real life, is where it becomes useful. If you like to dig into the research and thinking behind this work, some great places to start are Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett, Dr. Stephen Porges, Dr. Richard Strozzi-Heckler, Dr. Amanda Blake and Mark Walsh. BQ™ is my framework for translating and applying these kinds of body-brain principles, not a claim that these researchers have developed or endorsed BQ™.
- 04No. BQ™ workshops are professional development and experiential learning, not therapy. We use accessible, body-based practices to increase awareness and give people practical ways to shift how they show up in everyday situations, at work, in conversations, under pressure and in relationships.
- 05You won't be sitting and listening to me talk for three hours. Expect a mix of teaching, discussion, reflection, movement, simple Body Intelligence practices and real-world application. Depending on the session, we might work through scenarios, experiment with posture and presence, practice quick resets, or explore different ways of communicating and responding. You don't just learn about BQ™. You experience it.
- 06Not at all. No previous experience is needed. The practices are simple, accessible and explained along the way. This isn't a workout, yoga class or performance. It's about becoming more aware of the body you already bring into every meeting, conversation, decision and stressful moment.
- 07Absolutely. BQ™ is the framework; the application changes with the room. A construction leadership team, a group of educators and a women's leadership conference may all be exploring Body Intelligence, but the language, scenarios, challenges and practices should feel relevant to their world. That's why I start by understanding what's happening in yours.
- 08My work generally falls into four areas: Stress & Resilience, Relational Intelligence, Capacity & Sustainable Performance, and Presence & Confidence. We can go deeply into one or build a session that connects several depending on your goals.
- 09Yes. BQ™ can be delivered as a keynote, interactive presentation, team session, half-day or full-day workshop, or a customized learning experience. Sessions can be delivered in person or virtually, with the amount of interaction and practice adapted to the format.
- 10That's the point. Insight is valuable, but I don't want people leaving saying "That was interesting" and then doing exactly what they did before. BQ™ practices are intentionally practical enough to use in real life, before a difficult conversation, in the middle of a stressful day, when confidence drops, when you're struggling to focus, or when you notice yourself slipping into an old pattern.
- 11BQ™ can work with small leadership teams through to larger conference audiences. The amount and type of interaction changes with the size of the room, but the intention doesn't: people should have an opportunity to experience the ideas rather than simply hear about them.
- 12BQ™ isn't industry-specific, because bodies aren't industry-specific. I've brought this work into education, business and leadership settings, construction, professional communities and community organizations. What changes is the application. The underlying Body Intelligence principles stay consistent.
- 13You don't need to figure that out before contacting me. Tell me what's happening in your organization: where people are getting stuck, what you're trying to strengthen, and what you'd like people to walk away knowing, feeling or doing differently. From there, we'll determine the BQ™ focus and format that makes sense.
- 14I'm based in Greater Vancouver, BC and available for in-person speaking and facilitation as well as virtual sessions. For events outside the Lower Mainland, let's talk. Travel arrangements can be built into the conversation.
- 15Let's start with a conversation. Book an Exploration Call and tell me a little about your people, your goals and what's happening in your organization. We'll explore where BQ™ could fit and whether I'm the right person for the room.
